At the age of 26, Tor Chantara lives his life simultaneously in two worlds, practicing the fine woodworking art of marquetry that has its roots in the 16th Century, while learning techniques and ordering supplies via the Internet.
We are delighted to feature the beautiful Hawaiian wood platters made by Tim and Tiffany Shafto on the Big Island of Hawaii. Each of these stunning platters starts with a piece of Koa that Tim turns on a lathe. Tim then shapes other exotic hardwoods he wishes to use in the design of the platter. Each platter is cut and re-attached with colored, epoxy resin. The result is an exquisite Koa platter. Light shines through the resin in beautiful ways. Each Koa platter is a unique work of art.
