Kauai craftsman Geoff Morris creates cairns carved from five asymmetrical “stones” of Koa wood.
Early Hawaiians created ahu or Hawaiian altars or shrines by stacking stones of various sizes and shapes. Ahu were used for spiritual ceremonies and treated with care, respect and dignity. Ahu represent a record of the past and are still used by native Hawaiians today. Modern ahu are considered as authentic as the ancient structures, being part of the living Hawaiian culture today.
Geoff creates modern Koa cairns as a tribute to the heritage of Hawaii.
