Caroline Avery, a long time denizen of Hawaii, has tread the path of creative exploration all her life. She ranges and browses in the fields of various disciplines: couture, poetry, ceramics, filmmaking, photography, digital and physical collage and sculpture. Having spent the 1970s and 80s at the easel and in mural painting she pivoted to filmmaking, poetry, ceramics and sculpture. She returned to painting in 2013 and continues to lend her gaze to the easel, creating images in oil and gouache, inspired by the simple beauty of the everyday. She has enjoyed wide exposure in a number of venues, including MOMA, NY; The Whitney; Pacific Film Archives, SF; Film Forum, NYC; Cal arts, SF; Collective for living Cinema and Anthology film archive, NYC; Centre Georges Pompidou Paris, Oberhausen and Berlin film Festivals and the Milky Way, Netherlands among others. Her poetry has seen publication in such literary periodicals and annuals as Frog Pond, Bottle Rockets, Modern Haiku and Heron’s Nest. Her current output can be seen at Gallery of Great Things in Kamuela, big island, Hawaii.
