Michael Powell creates paintings combining light, color and composition in an ethereal quality that takes you to another place -- a place to find rest and a sense of peace. Michael enjoys painting landscapes inspired by years living on the Kahaluu estate he shared with the legendary Hawaii painter Hiroshi Tagami.  Their residence was an open style home/studio/gallery embracing art and nature, featuring exotic plants and flowers. The Tagami & Powell Gallery was widely known as a place of creativity, music, laughter and healing.

Michael also draws from fond memories of times living in Maui and the Big Island with Hiroshi.  He hopes his paintings provide collectors with a sense of inspiration and a heartfelt understanding of a Hawaii he will always remember.

Originally, Michael moved to Hawaii at age 29 to embark on a business career. Michael’s love of art soon led him to become the protégé of Hiroshi Tagami. The two forged an enduring relationship. Their artistic and charitable contributions have been formally  recognized Statewide. Throughout his career as an artist, Michael has sold over 4000 oil paintings to collectors, both locally and internationally.
