Sustainable Beauty

For over 60 years, Martin & MacArthur has partnered with private plantations on the Big Island to secure the most beautiful Koa in Hawaii. We only use Koa from previously fallen Koa trees. We never cut down any live Koa trees. We never buy Koa that is cut down from live Koa trees. Only Martin & MacArthur can certify that the Koa we use is from fallen trees. No other company can track back the origin of the Koa they use. By removing dead Koa trees from the forests, we allow new Koa seedlings to sprout, thus reforesting Koa naturally. We have been leaders in natural reforestation since our founder Jon Martin founded the company.

It is the one our founder Jon Martin first created  when he started the company over 60 years ago. He studied the rocker glides of scores of rockers through the ages to determine just the right slope and run to give Martin & MacArthur rocking chairs their perfect balance. Martin & MacArthur also offers its Monarch Rocking Chair inspired by the very one owned by Queen Liliuokalani. For a softer touch, we offer our Koele rocking chair with built-in cushions on the seat and backrest. We have rocking chair designs to satisfy every taste and design preference. All Martin & MacArthur rocking chairs are created with the same devotion to quality and attention to detail, guaranteeing gracious Hawaiian living  to your home.

Handcrafted Excellence

Our Koa wood rockers are made with precision craftsmanship of masters with over 30 years experience making Koa furniture. No other company has an active apprenticeship program led by six master craftsmen, each with over 30 years experience. We have six journeymen with 8-10 years experience and 10-12 apprentices learning the craft and assisting the masters. With a minimum of 25 years required experience making furniture, it takes longer to become a master furniture craftsman at Martin & MacArthur than it takes to become a brain surgeon. Every one of our rocking chairs has a faultless lacquer finish, accentuating the wood's inherent beauty. Because of the meticulous attention to detail, every Koa wooden rocker is beloved.
