SERA Test

Josh Serafin is a Southern California artist whose body of work includes reverse paintings on glass, bronze sculpture and reverse prints on acrylic with or without a bronze sculpture attached.

Serafin discovered a long-forgotten art form of reverse painting on glass. This 200-year-old technique requires a deep understanding of composition. Using glass as his canvas, Serafin paints with his fingers and pallet knives, applying layer upon layer to the glass. This takes several weeks, because each layer must dry before applying different colors in the next layer. Once the layering process is complete, Serafin carves-out his sea creatures down to glass. Then he applies gold, silver and copper leafing to create a “shimmer” like the scales of a fish. The result is stunning.

Serafin uses the same technique of applying the color to the back surface in creating reverse prints on acrylic. The front of the acrylic surface shows the actual image.

After more than 20 years as a painter, Serafin reinvented another lost art, relief carvings in bronze, to create Serafin Bronze Sea Creatures.  Magic happens when these bronze sea creatures are attached to the front of Serafin’s acrylic prints.  Now, collectors can create their own masterpiece by choosing any number of Serafin’s bronze sea creatures to be attached to any of Serafin’s acrylic prints.
