Luti Castro paints moments in time that capture the beauty of Hawaii. Originally from Brazil, Luis studied at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. From his home on the Big Island, Luis paints on stainless steel mounted on rippling Hawaiian hardwoods like Koa.
Luis incorporates the swirling movement of the wood grains into the overall composition of his art, creating impressionist studies of Hawaii’s beauty. Luti chooses to work with stainless steel because the paint resists fading and blends without absorbing into the canvas used by others. Luti makes some of his own oil paints by grinding natural minerals with linseed oil.
Luti aims to create works that are timeless and serene.
