Inspired by Hawaii, from mountain peaks to ocean depths, Julie Scheyer transform her experiences into one-of-a-kind sculptural resin lamp shades.

Julie hand-shapes each lamp shade in her Maui home studio. Julie creates one-of-a-kind designs with resins that give off a distinctive glow when lit.

Julie earned a degree in Chemical Engineering and worked at Intel, where she helped champion environmental initiatives, including lead-free manufacturing technologies, and was awarded a U.S. patent.

Living on Maui is the heart of Julie’s inspiration. As a competitive wing foiler, former windsurfer, kiteboarder, and scuba diver, she experiences Hawaiʻi from perspectives few people ever witness. Racing across Hawaiʻi’s legendary channels in the Maui to Molokaʻi and Molokaʻi to Oʻahu races, she flies silently above the ocean on a hydrofoil — looking down into the eerie deep blue, watching reefs emerge beneath her, and witnessing the ever-changing patterns of light on the sea. 

Julie has been tumbled in the surf, where the light becomes her guide upwards. These experiences have given her a profound appreciation for the beauty and power of the ocean that continues to inspire every sculpture she creates.
