When nationally-renowned artist Rob Kaz first heard about the Maui fire tragedy, he immediately began creating a new painting inspired by his love of Lahaina. In his inimitable way, Rob wanted to pay tribute to what is beautiful about Lahaina and offer a sense of hope that a new day will come.
Rob chose to depict a grand old Banyan tree like the one that stood proudly in the center of Lahaina for over 100 years. Though this proud Banyan tree is now scorched, Rob hopes that someday soon regrowth with begin and life will start anew. Rob also paints a baby honu heading for the ocean, a sign that even in desperate times, life prevails and renews.
